Faculty Mentors

EECS students are required to meet with the assigned faculty mentor from their major once per academic year. The term students meet with their mentor is determined by their last name.

  • Last names beginning A-L – Meet in the Fall
  • Last names beginning M-Z – Meet in the Spring

The purpose for meeting with faculty mentors is to open an ongoing conversation regarding topics such as career options, internships and employment opportunities within the student’s chosen field, option/elective course choices, and graduate school opportunities at both WSU and other institutions. Specific topics discussed during these meetings will vary according to mentors and students individually and no two interactions look alike.

Students will be reminded of this requirement during their advising appointment, but the order in which students complete these meetings is not set. Students can meet with their advisor or mentor first, but normally meeting with the mentor first is encouraged. Mentor assignments can be found by selecting Faculty Mentor > My Faculty Mentor in the left hand navigation and entering your student ID number in the search bar. It should be noted that while many mentors have office hours posted or other preferred contact methods, if none is listed emailing is recommended.

During the mentor meeting students will have a Faculty Mentor Form signed, this form must then be completed by the student and returned to their EECS academic advisor prior to that semester’s advising hold being removed. Forms are available on this website in the left hand navigation as well as on the third floor of EME just outside the elevator.

As always, students are strongly encouraged to meet with their faculty mentor early in the semester.
