Class Information
Objectives:

Introduction to software systems development with emphasis on implementation and testing (unit and integration), management, quality assurance configuration management and finally demonstration. Students will participate in a course project to give them hands-on experience with software testing and quality assurance principles. Test development theory, techniques, processes and practical aspects. Management and control of the software testing process is emphasized.

Structure:

Group activities are used to practice the techniques and strategies of software testing on example products. (Products are either student generated from CptS322 or industrial projects).

Group work is required. Students use industrial tools for bug tracking, coverage analysis, and test automation.

Topics:
  • Software Inspection techniques for development work products.
  • Fault Models and testing criteria.
  • Black Box vs. White Box testing.
  • Verification and validation techniques including equivalence partitioning, boundary testing, state testing, DU path testing.
  • Testing of Objects.
  • Integration and functional testing.
  • Test automation, scripting and regression testing suites.
  • Coverage and testing completeness.
