Prospective Students

With 36 tenure-track faculty members, 8 full-time instructors, 130 graduate students, more than 550 undergraduates, and $2.6M (3-yr running average) in annual research expenditures, the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) consistently ranks among the top 100 electrical and computer engineering schools nationally by U.S.  News and World Report. The goal is to equip students for technical careers and other productive roles as citizens of the state and nation. Another essential part of our mission is to contribute both fundamental and applied research results to the information technology and engineering fields. As a public land-grant university, WSU has a special responsibility to provide education for students and as well as services to government and industry within the State of Washington. Undergraduate teaching is a high priority of all stakeholders, and undergraduate students benefit from interactions with graduate-student researchers and participation in research projects.

Current areas of excellence include power engineering, mixed-signal electronics, electromagnetics, wireless telecommunications, computer engineering, software engineering, networking and distributed systems, databases and data mining, and more. Over the last eight years, the School has seen six endowed professorships or chairs and five graduate fellowships established. Junior faculty have received four NSF Research Initiation Awards, five Young Investigator Awards and one Presidential Faculty Fellow Award. Four senior faculty have been recognized as Fellows of IEEE or ACM, and almost a dozen of our faculty have served as editors or associate editors of prestigious academic journals.
