November 2009
Congratulations to our August 2009 EECS Graduates, continued;
· Anukrati Agrawal, (advisor, Chris Hundhausen), she earned her M.S. in Computer Science and she has gone on to earn a PhD in the School of Business Administration at WSU.
· Pawan Agarwal, (advisor; Chris Hundhausen) He earned his M.S in Computer Science and he is continuing on for his PhD in Computer Science.
(3) Students are applying for National Science Foundation Fellowship for spring 2010
· Eric Wang, PhD student in Computer Science. His advisor is Dr. Zhe Dang
And two new incoming fall 2010 students;
· Jacob Murray, PhD student in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. His advisor is Dr. Partha Pande
· Paul Wettin, PhD student in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. His advisor is Dr. Partha Pande

EECS Graduate Student News Release
October 2009
• Yan Wan, PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering; who received her Ph.D. from our program in June 2009, has been recognized by the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (an
advisory group for the Federal Aviation Agency) with the 2009 William E. Jackson award, for her outstanding research work in the area of air traffic flow management. Yan tentatively plans to use
some of the $4000 award money to support an undergraduate research team in her current employment as a tenure-track faculty member at the University of North Texas. Through Yan's participation in the award ceremony, she has also been able to develop collaborations with some companies working in the area of air traffic management.
• Shariful Hasan Shaikot, PhD in Computer Science; is currently representing College of Engineering & Architecture at Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA). He is the chair of the organizing committee of Wiley Research Exposition 2009 sponsored by GPSA.
• Xunning Yue, PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering; was awarded the EECS fall 2009 Travel Grant to attend Hawaii International Conference on System Science.
• Changjun (Andy) Wu, PhD in Computer Science; has been awarded a travel grant (approx. $1,500) by ACM and IEEE Computer Society to attend and participate at the 2009 ACM/IEEE Conference on Supercomputing (aka. "SC|09"), which will be held in Portland from November 14-20. In this conference, he will also present his doctoral research in an SC|09 workshop called "Early Adopters Ph.D. Workshop: Building the Next Generation of Application Scientists". Andy is receiving this award for the second year in succession. He is advised by Dr. Ananth Kalyanaraman. The SC conference is the largest conference in the field of supercomputing, attracting more than
10,000 attendees from academia and industry each year."

• Lohith Anusuya Rangappa, (advisors; WenZhan Song & Behrooz Shirazi), He earned his M.S. in Computer Science and he has gone on to Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory in Pullman to work as an Associate Software Engineer.
• Vandhana Krishnan, (advisor; Ananth Kalyanaraman) She earned her M.S in Computer Science and she is now working in Tampa, Florida for Verizon.
• Chang hun You, (advisor; Larry Holder), He earned his PhD in Computer Science and he is now doing a Post Doc in Palo Alto, California.
• Atef Suleiman, (advisor; John Miller) He earned his PhD in Computer Science and he is currently doing freelance consulting in the Tri-Cities.
• Arun Natarajan, (advisor; Diane Cook) He earned his M.S. in Computer Science and he has started working for a company in Seattle.
• The EECS GSC is projecting that we will admit at least 10 new graduate students this spring 2010 semester.
• If you are planning to graduate this fall 2009 semester, the Application for Degree deadline is October 9th. You must have the Application for Degree Form submitted to the Graduate School Office on or before this date. The form is available on the Graduate School Website, under forms.

Welcome back students! We hope you have a wonderful fall 2009 semester!
fall 2009 semester.
· Lars Kangas, PhD in Computer Science and PNNL staff member; received Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) funding for a projected related to his thesis research in metabolite identification.
· Tao (John) Yang, PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering; Is spending spring 2010 semester at the University of Twente in the Netherlands to work with Dr. Anton Stoorvogel doing research collaborations. Tao Yang is advised by Dr. Ali Saberi & Dr. Sandip Roy at WSU. Tao Yang will be funded by Research Grants from Dr. Stoorvogel, Dr. Saberi & Dr. Roy. This is the 2nd student of Dr. Saberi’s and Dr. Roy’s going to this academy.
