Washington State University is nestled in the sprawling hills of the Palouse Region of Eastern Washington, and is situated about 78 miles southeast of Spokane. The WSU campus offers many places to eat and spend time with friends and colleagues. It also offers a long list of recreation and cultural events to entertain students and visiting parents.
With approximately 27,000 residents, Pullman is a quiet little university town with much to do and see while off campus. Pullman has a selection of eating and drinking establishments that serve the town quite well. In order to make your shopping experience diversified, the town offers a balance of quaint shops and mega stores. If a church is what you are looking for, there are many to choose from in town and on campus, to meet your needs. If recreational activities are your thing, Pullman and the surrounding area has much to offer, including some beautiful parks that you will enjoy visiting. Culture is important to these Washington residents, so cultural events are plentiful, as well as entertainment that is performed throughout the town. To top it off, Pullman has an excellent school district, with its students consistently scoring well above the state average in the Washington Assessment of Student Learning standardized test.
Pullman’s next door neighbor, Moscow, Idaho is just 9 miles away, with a list of things to do and see to keep a WSU student or family member busy. University of Idaho is located in Moscow, and with it, comes a second set of cultural events hosted by the university. With a population of a mere 22,000 people, Moscow is a small town with an impressive number of restaurants and hot spots. There is an abundance of shopping, as well as entertainment in this bedroom community, offering much to occupy a cougar or a vandal. Moscow also prides itself on the list of recreational activities it has to offer the Palouse, including picturesque parks and beautiful mountains and rivers to enjoy. In short, Moscow and Pullman are great complements, making a student’s stay on the Palouse rich and fun filled.
Some regional sites that are within driving distance also add to what the Palouse has to offer. Spokane, Washington’s second largest city with a population of over 200,000 offers a plethora of shopping, dining and entertainment to enjoy, and is just 78 miles north of Pullman. Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, just 40 miles from Spokane and home to 41,000 residents, sits on beautiful Lake Coeur d’ Alene and is a outdoor recreational hot spot. The Palouse has so much to offer all lifestyles, with what both towns have to offer and its close proximity to surrounding communities. The Palouse is a great place to spend four years, and maybe longer.
